A Pattern of Words

One photograph a day to make the world spin a little slower.

  • Reason #39489 why our neighborhood is the best: because nobody blinks when we drop by with donuts to share at about 9:15am on a Saturday morning.

  • Facetime calls with Myma and Dadu (V’s parents) mean kids pulling out every single toy they own to wave at the screen.

  • The sheer thrill of finishing up the last cub scout den meeting of the year. Just in time, too, since I discovered P’s pants are shamefully small and I really don’t want to buy another pair till next year.

  • Living two blocks from a Saturday morning farmer’s market is kind of the dream when you’re in your late thirties. The kids love it, too.

  • There are so many lovely photographs I take that I only realize later, thanks to my children’s love of shedding clothes, I can’t *actually* post on the internet. This is especially annoying when I’m trying to document 365 photos within a year.

  • Contemplating the waffle life. (basically the only breakfast she wants these days – she’s awake by around 7am and grumbling every five seconds that she’s “so hungry! make me BREAKFAST, Mama!”)

  • Anyone else cave at this age and let the kids participate in wayyyy to many Easter egg hunts? Just me? Cool, cool, cool. Good news is, that we need a sinful amount of treats to satisfy the number of trick or treaters in October and at least half of those cheap “non editable” toys end up going into a basket for Halloween. Cheapskate of the year award? You betcha.

  • It was my birthday hike and it had been raining endlessly (again) for days, so our original plan to finally try Devil’s Marble Yard didn’t pan out. We had never been to Smith Mountain Lake, though, so we pivoted to some trails near there and it was perfect (but cold). Afterwards, we gorged ourselves on cheap burgers, nachos, and french fries.

  • I love how our home looks lit up at night, especially as I’m walking back flushed with happiness from a delightfully cozy evening spent with friends.

  • A Mamele squashmellow hug!
