Fourth grade looks like: mental math that’s better than my own and lots of convincing that writing out work is important even if he can solve the problem in his head, playing Minecraft for the first time in big cousin huddles, soccer practice and cub scouts and the adored Chess club, reading Harry Potter together in the evenings then listening to the audio version of the book endlessly in his room while he builds a million and one Lego mushrooms, dyslexia testing and still trying to get up to grade level in reading and writing, science lab with posters and presentations, and learning history that’s more recent (and more scary) than the ever fascinating Romans and Greeks.
